There are two questions you need to concern you with if you decide to read this:

1. How can something this offensive be so funny?
2. How are the authors getting away with it?

I didn't like it, I wasn't offended, but it wasn't for me. Maybe it is a cultural thing, because some things I didn't get. Boring and I rarely laughed while reading. The good stuff was great but the bad stuff was APPALLING. Jokes about rape, domestic violence and pedophilia are not 'edgy', they are despicable. The good stuff was great but the bad stuff was APPALLING. Jokes about rape, domestic violence and pedophilia are not 'edgy', they are despicable. ...more

One of their better ones that made me both laugh out loud while reading it on public transport and be embarrassed that I'm reading this on public transport. Some of these are hilarious and others are unbelievably wrong. But I still giggled my way through it 🙊

This was a Christmas present, and I read it knowing a bit about the webcomic and knowing it wasn't really my thing. The absurdist stuff is great, and several strips made me laugh out loud, but unfortunately a lot of the rest relies on shock value and being as gross, creepy and offensive as possible. It got a bit boring after a while. Which is a shame, because the stuff that doesn't rely on violent sexism or laughing at child abuse is really funny. It's a collection of some of their earliest works, which made them so famous. Some of it are hit-and-a-miss, but boy when they hit! Yawn. Not funny at all. The comic advertises itself as being politically incorrect, crass, can-of-beer-in-front-of-the-tellie blokey; not for the fainthearted, the uptight, the sensitive. This is all well and good, it certainly lives up to its reputation, with plenty of cussing, swearing, dirty jokes, and the mocking of every "minority" group under the sun (namely females, also the disabled, ill etc). That's all well and good, politically incorrect jokes/comics are great - they form some of the funniest content possible. But this comic simply is not funny. It is crass without humour; outrageous and obnoxious without wit or purpose; and worst of all, tries far too hard to be offbeat. There is no intelligence, subtlety, cleverness to speak of. The whole thing reeks of a desperation to amuse through offence; to score points via shock factor. The result is boring, amateur, immature, predictable, forgettable. ...more

I bought this on a whim whilst at a bookstore shopping for something else. I've read other comics by these authors and thought I'd give a whole book of them a go. I have to admit - I laughed out loud at some of them. This is a hilarious read - as long as you're not offended easily. Because let's face it, the type of humour contained in here definitely falls into the category of "not politically correct...by anyone's standards". So if you can overcome that, give it a try. Dark humour! But so funny that you only feel a bit ashamed at laughing at on several...either that or I am going to Hell.
Not for the easily offended or really sensitive that cannae laugh at the worst tastes.
However if you don't know Cyanide & Happiness from the Web then you really need to check out the depraved lunatics stuff.

Won't win awards, simple but effective but for those who laugh at almost everything, it's a gem!

So four white guys think jokes about rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, and pedophilia are funny, as long as they call it edgy? Hmm.

Clearly the humor of it all is missing.
Sorry guys, it's not funny. It's stupid, obnoxious and pure prejudiced.

Sometimes meh. Mostly funny. Sometimes hilarious.
Fun afternoon read.

I found this book on the side of the road, and only read it cause I wanted to add to my reading numbers for the year. I didn't laugh a single time. I might end up putting it back where I found it.

As a fan of the Cyanide and Happiness webcomic, it's pretty obvious that I would like this book filled with crude, often disgusting and always non-PC comics, although I would never have spent the money to buy it even with its bonus, never-before-seen comics, (sorry Explosm, I'm happy for you and all, I'm just poor and would rather spend my money on real literature).
However I was super happy to receive this collection for Christmas, so I did enjoy reading the comics, and so I would recommend this

However I was super happy to receive this collection for Christmas, so I did enjoy reading the comics, and so I would recommend this as a gift to anyone who enjoys reading webcomics, although, as the introduction to this book says, if you are under 15 or over 50, there's a good chance something inside the covers will offend you, so beware kids and seniors.

A couple of funny strips, a couple of sort-of-okay ones, and the rest pretty much follow this pattern:

A couple of stars for the genuinely funny entries, but nothing more.

22 July 2017:

The style is charming, but most of the jokes don't land. It's a little amateurish in the sense that it shows promise, but isn't quite there yet. I'm looking forward to the next book.

15 April 2019:

Some jokes get repetitive, like the ones where a patient talks to a doctor, they both laugh, and the punchline is that the patient has aids/cancer/some other deadly disease.
I like Kris and Dave's comics best; Kris's "interpretive dance battle" comic is my favourite.

Excellent Excellent, it plays on the humor that is derived from the least expected, the most unlikely and the highly offensive. Yet somehow, within this precarious age bracket and reading this book, the oddly offensive is transformed to a witty and funny comic. At times ridiculously funny, at times lame and cliche. The humor it inspires within you cannot be fully explained, and when two read the same comic strip, one may laugh his heart out while the other merely glances over. A terrible, hilarious comic by a group of friends. I don't like all their jokes, but enough stick to make it worth a read. It's nice to have these in a book, rather than via a hundred clicks of a website. Volume 2 is just as good. A terrible, hilarious comic by a group of friends. An entertaining read, had me hooked from the first minute, great yet simple work, if you love comic strips, Cyanide and happiness is a great read, the right amount of humour and insults, make this one a keeper for the "Win" gags.

Warning : you may go to hell after reading.

I love C and H but I cannot give it the full 5 stars as I dont agree with the child porn and paedophile 'humour' in this book.
The other pages are funny - there is so much you can laugh about but paedophilia isnt one of them.
